In a major nod to the state’s rich wrestling history, the North Carolina Senate has introduced a bipartisan bill named after the legendary Ric Flair to explore the creation of a professional wrestling Hall of Fame.
Senate Bill 404, formally titled the “RIC FLAIR” Act, proposes allocating $500,000 to study the feasibility of establishing the Hall of Fame. The funding would be directed to the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, which would be responsible for conducting the study and delivering a final report by the summer of 2026—should the bill be passed.
The bill is sponsored by Senators Jay Chaudhuri, Danny Britt, and Ralph Hise. Senator Jay Chaudhuri emphasized the cultural value of wrestling in North Carolina, stating: “Our shared cultural heritage in this state is college basketball, NASCAR, and professional wrestling. Professional wrestling still hasn’t gotten the recognition it deserves.”
North Carolina has long been a cornerstone of the wrestling world, with historic events, regional promotions, and iconic matches that have defined generations of fans and performers alike. The proposed Hall of Fame would serve as a tribute to the legends who helped shape the sport—many of whom have direct ties to the state.
