Jeff Jarrett opens up about his 2022 WWE exit and how backstage shifts, including Triple H's rise, played a role in his departure

Jeff Jarrett recently opened up about his 2022 departure from WWE and how it may have been perceived in relation to the backstage shift in leadership, specifically the growing influence of Triple H.

During the latest episode of his My World Podcast, Jarrett responded to fan speculation about whether his exit was influenced by the transition of power from Vince McMahon to Triple H. Jarrett had been serving as WWE’s Senior Vice President of Live Events until Brian “Road Dogg” James took over that role in August 2022, around the same time Triple H was assuming more control of WWE creative following McMahon’s initial retirement.

“I mean, the short answer would be, it would have to be yes,” Jarrett said when asked if he felt he wasn’t a Triple H guy. He continued, noting that while he’s always had a professional and respectful relationship with Triple H — even being personally invited by him to appear in the 2019 Royal Rumble — it’s clear Road Dogg was more aligned with Triple H’s inner circle.

Jarrett elaborated, “Brian was put in the exact same job I had. Best buds, him replacing me… the optics obviously appear [as such]. Vince brought me back not once but three or four times… so I think the simplest answer would be, ‘Brian was more of a Triple H guy.’ But I’ve never had a cross word with Hunter in my life.”

In November 2022, Jarrett moved on to AEW, signing on as both an in-ring performer and Director of Business Development.

“I can’t say I’m not a Triple H guy, but I think Brian is more of a Triple H guy.” — Jeff Jarrett
